In March, the Yreka Elks Lodge #1980 proudly hosted our Beyond the Pantry community outreach event, serving Siskiyou County residents experiencing financial hardship.
This project was created to address a critical need—while food assistance is available in our area, many essential household and hygiene items are not covered by SNAP/CalFresh benefits. Through Beyond the Pantry, we were able to provide toiletries, cleaning supplies, paper goods, sanitary products, laundry items, and other household essentials to individuals and families in need.
The event brought together Lodge members, community partners, and volunteers to create a welcoming and supportive environment. Guests were able to receive needed supplies and enjoy a free hot dog lunch, making the day not only helpful, but also community-centered and inviting.
We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our members and community. After promoting the project at two regular bingo nights, donations poured in—filling three large barrels with additional supplies. These contributions allowed us to serve even more households than originally planned.
Following the event, remaining items were donated to the local food bank to ensure continued support for families in need.
Beyond the Pantry was made possible through an Elks Beacon Grant and reflects our ongoing commitment to serving others. This project is a great example of how the Elks are actively engaged in making a positive impact in our community.

In February, the Yreka Elks Lodge #1980 partnered with Rescue Ranch to host a Dog Adoption Day at the Lodge. This community event focused on helping local dogs find loving homes while supporting responsible pet ownership in Siskiyou County.
The event brought together community members, Elks volunteers, and Rescue Ranch staff for a day centered on connection, compassion, and service. Attendees had the opportunity to meet adoptable dogs and learn more about the adoption process in a welcoming and family-friendly environment.
A key component of the project was reducing financial barriers to adoption. Through the support of an Elks Beacon Grant, the Lodge was able to help sponsor adoption fees and spay/neuter services for individuals and families with financial need. This support made it possible for more dogs to be placed in safe, loving homes while also helping address pet overpopulation in our community.
Throughout the event, Elks members were actively involved—assisting with setup, greeting guests, coordinating raffles held every 30 minutes, and serving a free hot dog lunch. The strong turnout and positive energy made the event a success for both people and pets.
This partnership reflects the Elks’ commitment to supporting not only our community members, but also the well-being of animals. We are proud to have worked alongside Rescue Ranch to make a meaningful impact.
